Running a local convenience store is hard work. Early mornings, late nights. Doing social media on top of that is tough. Many convenience store owners make simple errors online. These mistakes stop local customers from seeing and remembering your posts.

Here are seven key mistakes convenience stores make on social media:

Forgetting Local Focus

The mistake: Posting generic memes or global news. The fix: Talk about your neighborhood, local events, and community news. Get involved in sports teams, local charities and show you care!

No Personality

The mistake: Hiding the store owner and staff members BEHIND the camera. The fix: Investing a little energy and a friendly face onto the page can breathe life into the content, yes this can happen include a regular customer too!

Poor Quality Photos

The mistake: Uploading dark, blurry pictures of new stock or deals. The fix: Turn on bright lights and take clean, sharp photos of products to help ‘Stop the Scroll’.

Ignoring Customer Messages

The mistake: Leaving comments and direct messages unread for days. The fix: Reply quickly to questions about stock & opening times.

Posting Without a Plan

The mistake: Posting five times in one day, then going silent for a month. The fix: Make a simple weekly calendar to stay consistent, and ensure content remains varied between graphics, videos & in-store photos.

Not Promoting Daily Deals

The mistake: Keeping fresh local deals or meal deals a secret. The fix: Share a quick photo of your hot coffee, fresh bakes, or special offers every morning - these new additions are what help you stand out from the crowd!

Talking at Customers, Not With Them

The mistake: Only using social media as a digital billboard. The fix: Ask local followers what new snacks or drinks they want to see on your shelves - they are following for a reason, get them involved too!
